As a fairly frequent shopper in Dorchester, I am now put off by the parking charges. I feel the Council is being greedy in making every street a paying area, and not allowing an hour or even half an hour free. I live outside Weymouth which does have high parking charges, but at least there are still some roads in the centre where you can park for an hour for nothing. I got a parking ticket in Dorchester two weeks ago when I parked for 10 minutes, went to a nearby shop to get change for the machine and got back to find the warden had just written a ticket. She insisted she had given me my 5 minutes grace, which I didn't believe as I hadn't seen her in the area at all in the time I went to the shop. I hope Dorchester isn't one of the councils that gives wardens bonuses for the number of tickets issued. I see that there is to be free parking overnight and on Sundays, but is that enough. I, for one, will not be doing any Christmas shopping in Dorchester this year.
