After meeting in the band of the sixth Dorchester Community Play, Drummer Hodge, the musicians of Tatterdemalion joined The New Hardy Players for Wessex Scenes in 2014. Since the musical success of The Return of the Native in 2015, the group of friends have formed a folk dance band specialising in playing traditional tunes from the Hardy family and Benjamin Rose tunebooks. These Dorset collections are an invaluable historical resource of popular dance tunes from the 19th century. With fiddles and flute leading these wondrous melodies, the guitar and bass clarinet (a modern stand-in for the serpent!) driving along the beat, and interesting harmonies provided on violin and viola, Tatterdemalion are already entertaining audiences across the county.
The band are available for dances and ceilidhs in Dorset, and can be contacted through the New Hardy Players Facebook page, or by emailing TatterBand@gmail.com.
