Our main speaker this month will be Alistair Chisholm from the Dorchester Joint Heritage Committee.
Alistair will talk to us about the role of Dorchester’s History, Heritage and Culture. With the recent injection of funds for the regeneration of the Shire Hall project and Dorset County Museum and the impending visit of Dippy the Dinosaur from the Natural History Museum, the Dorcheser Joint Heritage Committee want to ensure that full advantage is made of Dorchester’s heritage and cultural assets. He will update us on the latest plans the committee has to move forward alongside the new developments proposed in Dorchester.
Dorchester Joint Heritage Committee is a joint committee made up of Councillors from the Town Council, West Dorset District Council and Dorset County Council. There are also a number of non councillor representatives from other organisations in the town including the Duchy of Cornwall, Dorchester Civic Society, Dorchester Chamber for Business, Local Nature Reserve, Dorset County Museum, The Keep Military Museum, Shire Hall Project, Blue Badge Guides and the Dorchester Association.
Dorchester already attracts visitors but, Alistair feels strongly that if we made more of our unique heritage and cultural offer, the number of visitors would undoubtedly increase and the town’s economy would benefit.
