The Chamber’s July breakfast meeting will have an education theme to link in with the Chamber’s RETAIN/RETRAIN/REFOCUS campaign to be held at the newly built function room at Thomas Hardye School.

We are inviting not only members but those from the wider business community to come along and meet the Chamber and find out more about local initiatives underway to support young people.

Join members of Dorchester & District Chamber for Business for our education-themed breakfast at this historic local school, which has been educating Dorchester’s children since the 16th century.

Thomas Hardye School provides education for children from Year 9 to Year 11 and has an integrated sixth form, which sees many of its pupils later attending some of the UK’s top universities every year.  It has achieved UNESCO school status (one of just 54 in the UK) for the “global outlook of students” and has been declared a ‘World School’ by the  International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO).

You are also invited to take part in Mock Interviews that will follow the breakfast.  Volunteers will attend a short briefing after the breakfast and can commit to a 1/2 day or the whole day, which will finish by 3.30pm.   Interviews are taking place over 2 days – 8th and 9th July – Volunteers can participate on just one or both of the days.  Refreshments are provided, including lunch.

Each student will arrive for their interview with a brief personal statement – The person interviewing gives brief feedback verbally after the interview and also completes a written form that will be given to both student and parent on Tutor Consultation Day a fortnight later.  The idea is to focus on the positive points of the interview – it really helps to boost confidence and improve self-esteem.  If you are interested in volunteering, please email Jon Dean, Careers Co-ordinator, at jdean@thomas-hardye.net

KeeP 106 will be broadcasting live from the event.
