From 18 November 2025, directors and people with significant control (PSCs) will be legally required to verify their identity. Identity verification will help make sure that the people setting up, running and controlling companies are who they say they are.
Before You Start

You need to do this if you are a company director, person with significant control (PSC), or similar role.
☐ Make sure you’re within the deadline
- New appointments after 18 November 2025: verify as part of the appointment
- Existing roles: verify by the first confirmation statement due after that date
What You Need Ready
☐ One valid photo ID
- Passport (any country), or
- UK photo driving licence, or
- UK biometric residence permit/card or frontier worker permit
☐ Personal details
- Full name (including any previous names)
- Date of birth
- Home address
- Address history for the last 12 months
- Email address
☐ A device with internet access
- Smartphone, tablet, or computer
- Camera access if using online ID checks
How to Verify
☐ Create or sign in to a GOV.UK One Login account
☐ Complete the identity check
- Upload or scan your ID
- Take a photo/selfie for identity matching
- Enter your personal details
☐ Submit the check

After Verification
☐ Receive your Companies House personal code
This proves your identity has been verified
☐ Store your personal code safely
Do not share it unless someone is filing on your behalf
☐ Use your personal code when required
- Company confirmation statements
- New company incorporations
- PSC identity submissions (within 14 days if applicable)
