Dorset Youth Pride is back at Shire Hall Museum!

Dorset Youth Pride returns to Shire Hall Museum in Dorchester on Saturday 13th. Now in its third year, Dorset Youth Pride is a free, inclusive Pride event welcoming all members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies.

Dorset Youth Pride returns to Shire Hall Museum in Dorchester on Saturday 13th July.

Shire Hall Museum is opening for free from 10am – 5pm on Saturday 13th July for Dorset Youth Pride. Visitors to the event will have the opportunity to take part in a range of activities, including craft workshops and taking over Vinyl Van’s decks for ‘Pride Pick & Mix’.

Tamsin Little, Communications and Fundraising Manager at Shire Hall Museum and organiser of Dorset Youth Pride said: “When we first held Dorset Youth Pride in 2022, we wanted to create a safe space, where members of the LGBTQ+ community, young people and allies could come together and experience Pride. Dorset Youth Pride is an opportunity to celebrate, learn, engage and express yourself.

I am so excited to have Dorset Youth Pride back for the third year, partnering with more organisations and community groups than before. With talks, craft activities, workshops, music and comedy, there is something for everyone! Shire Hall Museum is proud to support and champion the LGBTQ+ community, and will continue to do so.”

Shire Hall Museum has partnered with organisations across the county to deliver this inclusive event. Dorset Youth Pride will feature stalls from Space Youth Project, Pop’n’Olly, Dorset Youth Voice, Weymouth Gap Group, This is Me, Dorchester Sheroes, STARS, Section 28 and its After Lives, the NHS and Dorset Council.

In the afternoon, visitors to Dorset Youth Pride can take over the Vinyl Van decks and play some of their favourite music and Pride anthems, and comedian Andrew White will be performing his stand up set ‘Young, Gay and a Third Thing’ in partnership with the Hardy Har (Dorchester’s Comedy Festival). There will also be opportunities to learn more about LGBTQ+ history and issues, with informative talks and additional resources available throughout the day.

This event has been made possible thanks to support from RiskSTOP Group Ltd., who are sponsoring the event for the third year.

Danny Lillington, Managing Director at RiskSTOP Group Ltd. said: “Dorset Youth Pride, proudly sponsored by the RiskSTOP Group, returns to Shire Hall Museum this year. This wonderful initiative truly deserves our support. By creating a safe and inclusive space for young people to celebrate their identities, this event promotes diversity, inclusion, and acceptance. It provides a valuable opportunity for LGBTQ+ youth to connect with one another, share their experiences, and take pride in who they are.

“Moreover, hosting the event at Shire Hall Museum offers participants a chance to learn about the rich history of LGBTQ+ rights and activism. Dorset Youth Pride represents a significant step towards building a more accepting and inclusive society. We should all applaud and support the dedicated efforts of the staff at Shire Hall Museum for organizing this remarkable event.”
