Weymouth & Kingston Maurward College Seeks New Director of Governance to Drive Strategic Oversight and Excellence

Weymouth & Kingston Maurward College (WKMC), a leading Further Education provider with campuses on the stunning Jurassic Coast and a historic estate near Dorchester, has launched a campaign to find a new Director of Governance. This pivotal senior role will help guide the College through its next phase of strategic development and uphold the highest standards of governance, transparency, and accountability.

WKMC has a proud tradition of placing students at the heart of everything it does, delivering high-quality, inclusive learning opportunities that transform lives. The successful candidate will join the College at an exciting time of positive change and ambitious growth.

Working closely with the Chair of Governors, Chris Evans, and Principal & CEO, Kate Wills, the Director of Governance will be responsible for ensuring the effectiveness and integrity of the College’s governance framework. The role includes advising on constitutional and legislative matters, supporting board effectiveness, and promoting best practices aligned with national governance codes.

“We are looking for a committed, collaborative professional who will be a trusted advisor to our Board,” said Kate Wills, Principal & CEO. “This is a critical post that ensures our governance is not only compliant but exemplary — helping us deliver on our mission to improve life chances for people across our community.”

The part-time role (30 hours per week) offers flexibility, with options for remote working and time-off in lieu for evening meetings. The College is offering a competitive salary of up to £60,000 for an exceptional candidate, along with generous benefits, including a pension scheme, health and wellbeing initiatives, and professional development opportunities.

WKMC encourages applications from experienced governance professionals, particularly those with backgrounds in education or other regulated sectors. However, candidates without formal governance qualifications will also be considered, provided they are willing to undertake training within the first two years.
