Roadworks updates
It’s great to see work finally starting on the pedestrianisation of Lower South Street. This work is long overdue and it will enhance the town ready for the summer. Elsewhere my inbox has been busy with members’ frustration over the delays to traffic caused by the work on the Great Western Road junction. A number of people have questioned if the changes will make traffic move more smoothly. You could argue that the main reason for the work is to make it safer for pedestrians. I’m not convinced that traffic flow will improve, but let’s see how it works.
Increase in crime
The Chamber continues to be concerned by the increase in thefts from business premises, with a further three I have been made aware of since our last committee meeting. Also the increase in anti social behaviour and vandalism, including the mindless damage in Poundbury last week. We will continue to feed back to the towns police inspector our members’ concerns. Our town has for so many years been a save haven so the increase in theft and criminal damage over the past six months or so is a real cause for concern. Please keep your feedback coming via .
Forthcoming events
We held our April Chamber breakfast at Poundbury’s Duchess of Cornwall. It was the first time we have visited and we had an enjoyable time with the room full of great conversations. Our next is 9th May at The Junction. Booking is now open here.
