President’s monthly blog post – July 2017

It’s been a very busy month for the Chamber team with two wonderful events both blessed with gorgeous weather.  We held our first Summer Lunch at Summer Lodge and we saw the return of our popular Summer Garden Party at Athlehampton House. Thanks to all those who attended, and made these events so pleasurable. We appreciate your feedback on both events; so far the advice has been to look at separating the events in future years.

My inbox continues to be filled with questions about the current traffic issues within the town. The work that continues at the Weymouth Avenue, Prince of Wales Road junction has been a talking point. I’m very philosophical about these schemes and I’m keen to see how the traffic flows on competition.

After once again nearly falling at the first hurdle, the Dorchester Carnival was resplendent. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the hard working volunteers and supporters that made this event happen.  Here’s to 2018 Carnival!

The news that the £13m extension and upgrade to Dorset County Museum has been approved has been very well received. With the prospect of new galleries, a learning centre, library, cafe and shop the Museum will be a real draw for visitors of all ages.

I attended a launch event for the Dorset Growth Hub who are the conduit to funding for Dorset. There is support for businesses of all sizes and in a huge range of sectors. If you are looking for training or support for a first time or established business speak to the team. There could be help for you and it’s likely to be free.

Finally word reaches me that our renowned Town Cryer and Chamber member Alistair Chisolm will be using his booming voice for a Dorchester History Mobile App. There is no one better for the job.
